The finished painting of the crane at Wallsend

Saturday, May 19, 2007

Dave begins his painting. The background had been prepared earlier, allowing him to concentrate in the demonstration on the crane which was the main subject. He showed us his fascinating wet on wet techniques where he effectively mixed the colours on the painting itself rather than in the palette.

The painting of the crane in progress, showing the rusting industrial effect that Dave was creating dropping different colour of paints into paint that was still wet on the paper.

Dave works from his studio at The Hearth Arts Centre in Horsley. His work is mainly water colour landscapes. I prefer to paint industrial scenes. He is attracted to the unusal shapes and textures that this subject matter creates. His paintings are done from accurate sketches however, he like to experiment with unusual colour to evoke different moods and atmospheres.
